Zucchini "Iskander f1" ("Eskanderany F1") is a relatively new variety from Dutch breeders. It is a super-early and extremely productive hybrid form. The hybrid is perfectly adapted to the soil and climatic features of our country.

The description given by the originator allows us to recommend this hybrid form for cultivation on ridges of open ground and using temporary film shelters in order to obtain super-early vegetable products. Fruiting is observed until the first frost.

Description and varietal characteristics

Zucchini of the hybrid form "Iskander f1" forms compact plants of the bush of the straight-growing type. Leaves are closer to large, from light green to dark green, with average dissection and pronounced spotting. The main advantage of the hybrid is early ripeness and the ability to tie fruits in low temperature conditions. The period from seedlings to full technical maturity of the fruit is about 40-45 days.

Fruits are cylindrical or club-shaped, light green, covered with a very thin, waxy, with light specks and veined skin. The average length of the fetus does not exceed 18-20 cm. Commercial mass varies from 500 to 650 g. Taste and commercial qualities are excellent. The pulp is creamy white, very delicate and tasty.

The Dutch hybrid is characterized by a fairly high resistance to powdery mildew and anthracnose, which reduces the need for chemical treatment. Seeds are elliptical in shape, whitish, medium in size. The maximum yield of marketable fruits exceeds 910 kg / ha, which is almost two times higher than the standard harvest volume of the vegetable marrow of the Gribovsky 37 variety.

Seed Processing and Germination

Zucchini "Iskander f1" can be grown as a direct planting of seeds in the ground, and seedlings. In any case, it is advisable to carry out preliminary preparation of the seed material, which will make it possible to obtain stronger, friendly and early seedlings. Presowing preparation of seeds is classified as quite simple, but very effective work and consists in the following activities:

  • sorting of seeds with the selection of the most full-weight, without deformation and damage;
  • soaking sorted seeds for a day in a solution of any growth stimulator.

Zucchini "Iskander f1": cultivation features

Most commonly used for soaking "Bud" or "Ideal". Can be used for seed preparation a solution based on liquid fertilizer "Agricola start." Then the seeds should be covered with a damp cloth and left for a couple of days in a warm place with an air temperature of 22-23 ° C. Germination of zucchini seeds in a clean and moist wood sawdust gives a good result. It should be remembered that the seed material has a limited shelf life and over time almost completely loses its germination capacity.

To get a very early crop, seedlings should be used for planting in open ground. Zucchini seedlings can be grown both at home and on ridges in the greenhouse. Sowing is carried out on April 15-25 or in the first decade of May. Zucchini seedlings need to be grown in individual planting cups measuring 10 × 10 cm, filled with a nutritious soil mixture based on peat and humus.

Prepared and germinated seed material is recommended to be sown with a depth of 2-3 cm. The temperature regime for growing seedlings at room conditions should be 18-22 ° C. Planting seedlings in a permanent place should be at the age of a month. Before the onset of stable warm weather, shoots and seedlings of zucchini must be covered with a covering garden film.

Timing and landing scheme

Zucchini belong to the pumpkin plant family and in terms of nutrition are very close to such vegetable crops as cucumbers, salads, and lettuce. It is not too difficult to grow a high crop of quality fruits of the squash "Iskander f1". One of the components of obtaining a productive plant in the home garden is the observance of planting dates and the correct location of the crop.

Zucchini seeds begin to germinate at a temperature of 12-15 ° C, but young seedlings absolutely do not tolerate spring frost, which is the determining factor for choosing the timing of planting in open ground. As a rule, it is carried out not earlier than the last decade of May, and in order to extend the period of consumption of fresh vegetable products, crops are carried out in several stages with an interval of a week.

The bushes are compact and straight-growing, but in order to provide plants with a full nutrition area and increase the productivity of a vegetable crop, the planting scheme of 150-200 x 60-70 cm should be followed. Seedlings should be planted in the evening or in rainy, cloudy weather. For seedlings of zucchini, you should prepare landing holes with a depth of 15-20 cm and a width of 30-35 cm, which should be filled with sod-humus nutrient mixture.

The soil for growing zucchini should be light sandy loam or loamy. It is very important that the soil on the site is well warmed throughout the entire growing season of the plant. If necessary, the soil is chalked with dolomite flour and wood ash is added. The best precursors for zucchini are onions, early cauliflower and cabbage, as well as green and bean crops.

Tips and reviews of vegetable growers

When growing the Dutch zucchini of the hybrid Iskander f1 mold, you will not be able to get your own seeds, so you should purchase seed from verified and well-established companies. Seminis company belongs to the category of the most famous and very popular among vegetable growers. According to gardeners, the seeds produced by this company have almost 100% germination rates and do not need sorting and long preplant planting.

How to plant zucchini

High grades were received by the variety due to rather early fruit set, rapid ripening, and the formation of a compact, non-creeping bush, which allows cultivation on a fairly limited area without loss of yield. The taste of this hybrid form is also on top. The fruits are not prone to overgrowing, have a very tasty pulp and are perfect for fresh consumption, as well as for heat treatment and various types of canning.
