Selenium for cows is necessary for the normal course of vital processes in the body. The trace element affects metabolism, stimulates secretory functions, redox processes, improves resistance, immune potential. To avoid cattle diseases associated with a deficiency of vitamin E and selenium, veterinarians recommend giving "E-selenium" as a supplement.

Composition, release form, packaging

"E-selenium" - injection solution. Opalizing transparent liquid of white, light yellow color, odorless. The concentrate dissolves quickly in water. The main active substances that make up "E-selenium":

  1. Selenium in the form of sodium selenite - 0.5 mg.
  2. Vitamin E (tocopherol acetate) - 50 g.

In addition to the main components, the veterinary preparation also contains auxiliary substances: benzyl alcohol, water for injection, polyethylene-35-recinol. "E-selenium" is packaged in glass bottles with a volume of 50-100 ml hermetically sealed with rubber lids, aluminum caps. Instructions are attached to the packages.

Important! "E-selenium" in veterinary medicine is prescribed for agricultural, fur-bearing, domestic animals for prophylaxis, in the complex therapy of systemic pathologies, disorders caused by a deficiency of selenium, vitamin E.

Indications for use of the drug for cattle:

Instructions for use

According to the annotation, "E-selenium" is intended for intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection. The dosage is selected by the veterinarian on an individual basis, taking into account the condition, age of the animals, physiological parameters of the body. Recommended dosages:

  1. For adult cows - 1 ml per 50 kg of body weight.
  2. For calves up to 3 months old - 0.5 ml per 10 kg. The course is three months. The interval between injections is two weeks. The maximum number of injections is six.
  3. Young animals older than three months - 0.2 ml per 10 kg of body weight. For prophylaxis, the drug is administered once a month before the onset of puberty.

With a preventive purpose, the veterinary drug is prescribed to adult cows every two to four months (2-3 injections). With treatment - every 7-10 days.

Important! If necessary, if "E-selenium" for cattle is used for medicinal purposes, the veterinarian can increase the dosage by 1.5-2 times.

The injection solution is prepared immediately before use so that the drug does not lose its properties.


Despite its high efficiency, "E-selenium" has a number of contraindications:

  • an excess of selenium, vitamin E in the body of cows;
  • individual intolerance, hypersensitivity to the components that make up the solution.

In the presence of any contraindications, "E-selenium" is not prescribed to cows for medicinal, prophylactic purposes.

Side effects

Side effects are noted in case of non-compliance, exceeding the recommended dosages indicated in the annotation, as well as in case of individual intolerance to the body of the components of "E-selenium". Side effects:

  • intestinal disorders;
  • indigestion (vomiting, hypo-, atony of the pancreas, cessation of chewing, refusal of feed);
  • allergic reactions (skin rash, itching);
  • toxic phenomena;
  • salivation (increased salivation);
  • tachycardia, impaired pulse;
  • pallor, cyanosis of the mucous membranes;
  • inadequate response to stimuli;
  • increased sweating;
  • a sharp drop in temperature;
  • shallow rapid breathing, shortness of breath;
  • the appearance of a garlic odor from the mouth;
  • muscle spasms.

To avoid the development of side effects, a single dosage for adult cows should not exceed 15 ml.

With the development of side effects, the drug is discontinued. Detoxification measures are carried out aimed at normalizing the general condition of the animals. Prescribe antioxidants, cardiac glycosides, hepatoprotectors. "E-selenium" is replaced by analogs and other means.

Shelf life and storage conditions

The expiration date of "E-selenium" is indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging and is two years from the date of issue. The veterinary medicine is stored in hermetically sealed vials, in a cool, dark place, at a temperature of 9-22 degrees. Do not mix the product with feed, food, other medicinal products. The solution loses its effectiveness at high humidity, under the influence of direct sunlight.

Important! After opening the bottle, "E-selenium" should be used within two weeks.

At the end of the expiration date, the veterinary preparation is not suitable for use. To be recycled.

Individual prevention measures

Youngsters, lactating, pregnant females are given "E-selenium" with caution. Therapy, therapeutic measures are carried out under the supervision of a veterinarian.
