Cucumbers: variety selection

Landing Features

Cucumbers "Claudia f1" can be grown not only by the seedling method, but also abundantly bear fruit when cultivated by direct sowing in the ground.

Preparing seeds for sowing

Proper seed preparation is the key to obtaining healthy and complete plants. Before landing, it is recommended that the following preparations be made:

  1. Selection of quality seeds. Equal and equally sized seeds should be lowered into a 3% saline solution, and after five minutes, remove all seeds that have sunk to the bottom, rinse them in clean water and dry to flow.
  2. Soak to cool. Seeds should be placed on a moistened tissue and wait only for their swelling, but not full germination. Then the seeds are dried.
  3. Warming up the seeds. This procedure has a positive effect on branching and allows you to get a plant with a significant number of female type flowers.
  4. Seed disinfection. To destroy pathogens and increase seed germination, they should be lowered for 25 minutes in a weak solution of pharmacy potassium permanganate, and then rinsed several times with clean water.

Soil preparation

Properly prepared soil contributes to a higher percentage of survival and increases seed germination:

  • soil for sowing or planting cucumber seedlings should be loose and moisture-intensive;
  • the soil on the ridges should have a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction. It is possible to affect the acidity by adding ordinary lime;
  • it is advisable to prepare the ridges in the autumn period, after deep digging with the addition of 5 kg of manure for each square meter, as well as 27 g of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers;
  • during spring preparation of the soil, when digging, add about 2.5 kg of humus or compost per square meter, as well as enrich the soil with an azophos or nitrophos.

Ridges should be placed in areas well lit and warmed by the sun, without signs of shading by vegetation or buildings.

Direct sowing in soil

When conducting direct sowing of seeds on ridges, you should carefully monitor the weather conditions and adhere to the recommended sowing dates:

  • sow the seeds of cucumbers in open ground only when the soil temperature becomes + 18-23 ° C;
  • in the southern regions, crops of cucumbers are produced in two to three terms with an interval of two or three weeks;
  • in the middle lane of our country in the last decade of May, it is necessary to make a furrow 3-4 cm deep, carefully pour it with warm water, spread the seeds at a distance of 10-15 cm and fill them with soil.

Sowing seeds can be carried out not only by the ordinary method, but also by the so-called nesting method. When growing cucumbers in open ground, it is preferable to use ridges with a width of 80-100 cm and a height of 20-25 cm. For such ridges, sowing of seeds is carried out in two rows with a distance between seeds of 10-15 cm.

Growing seedlings

Growing seedlings of cucumbers has its own characteristics and allows you to accelerate the harvest:

  • a favorable time for sowing cucumber seeds for seedlings is 25-30 days before planting in the ground;
  • the soil before sowing should be moistened and fertilizer "Universal" or "Kemira-universal";
  • the seeds germinate more actively and amicably at a temperature of + 20-25 ° C;
  • recommends cucumber seedlings to be watered in a day or two, depending on the moisture content of the soil, the settled water;
  • so that premature stretching of cucumber seedlings does not occur, it is necessary to lower the air temperature.

On sandy and loamy soils, plants should be planted by deepening a peat pot 3/4 height. When cultivated on peaty and light sandy soils, such a planting capacity should be deepened completely.

Care Activities

Cucumber "Claudia f1" grows well and forms a high yield, subject to the following rules:

  • watering should be regular and create optimal humidity, which is about 70% at the active growth phase, about 82% at the stage of mass fruiting, and no more than 75-80% by the end of the growing season;
  • when cultivated in the temperate zone, sprinkling of cucumber plants is the main method of irrigation;
  • cucumbers are very responsive to the use of fertilizers during the growing season, and the best result is shown by fertilizing plants with slurry;
  • it is very important not to forget to perform soil cultivation after irrigation and to carry out systematic weeding on ridges;
  • cucumber "Claudia f1" is a very powerful plant and needs timely formation and garter.
